Wind Power in Ontario Generates a New Record in 2009TORONTO, Jan. 8 - Wind generation in Ontario rose by more than 60 percent over the previous year, Ontario's Independent Electricity SystemOperator (IESO) reported today in its analysis of 2009 data.

Wind powert from Ontario's wind farms was 2.3 terawatt hours(TWh) in 2009, equivalent to the consumption of the City of Oshawa for twofull years. At the same time, output from Ontario's coal-fired plantsdropped to 9.8 TWh, down dramatically from 23.2 TWh in 2008, and the lowestoutput in 45 years. "Ontario's supply mix is evolving," said Paul Murphy, President and CEO ofthe IESO. "We are making considerable progress in our efforts to integrateenergy from cleaner fuel sources."

Continued reports such as this illustrate the role Wind Energy is playing within Ontario.

Google has gone Green

I read on so many websites about Google and Adsense, many of these sites and Blogs have negative things to say. I must humbly admit that I am a supporter.

Google has created a Search Engine and a profitable business that exists by a certain set of rules. These rules are in fact created by Google. If you have a website and want to see it show up on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS) Google has a method for either finding or site or ruling you out as SPAM etc. You must play the game by their rules.

If you dont like these rules, don't play the game. Yahoo and MSN are just a click away. Okay enough defending Google for this post. Check out their latest announcement on Google Going Green.

Google Designing Lean Green Energy-Saving Machines

For the Blog readers that know me, this page may not fit with the general feel of my site. I will let you in a secret- it's not. I am trying something new to get noticed by none other than...Google :)

I could simply send my site to all my Blogging friends but what fun is that? I wish to see how long it takes for this page to get indexed by the Google Bots. For those not familiar with them, they are the little computer programs that scour web pages to decide what it is about and where it will result in the SERPs. So I'm sorry to those who find this post out of place- but odds are that it will be the first post Google will find in my Green Energy Blog.

Wind generation in Ontario achieved record output on March 11 said the IESO

Over a 24-hour period on March 11, wind energy totalled 16,585 megawatt hours (MWh) – enough electricity to power a city the size of Peterborough for a week. The hourly average wind output was 691 megawatts (MW), with a high output of 781 MW and a low output of 419 MW.

“The strong winds yesterday translated into record levels of electricity produced by wind turbines located throughout the province,” said Ken Kozlik, Chief Operating Officer of the IESO.“ Ontario is making significant progress in its efforts to phase out coal-fired generation and develop a greener, more sustainable supply mix, which will lead to more record-breaking days.”

With nearly 900 MW of wind capacity providing energy into the electricity market, Ontario is leading the country in wind generation capacity. The IESO forecasts that at least two terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity will be produced by wind farms over the next year.

1200 'Green Jobs' announced in Kingston

Four entrepreneurs from Toronto announced an ambitious plan recently to build a $500-million solar module manufacturing facility in Kingston, an investment expected to create 1,200 direct and indirect "green-collar" jobs in the area.

Everbrite Solar, a division of Toronto-based Everbrite Industries Ltd., said the plant would be capable of producing 150 megawatts of solar modules every year, roughly enough to supply power to 20,000 homes annually.

This recent announcement printed in the Toronto Star comes as welcome news for supporters of Green Energy in Ontario. This could indicate a new vote of confidence in the future economic gains proposed in Ontario.

With recent advancements in PV systems, solar energy could become a viable source of income to Ontario residents. Reductions in families energy bills could be just the beginning. Could it be feasible to turn a profit at a residential level?

181 Mega Watt Wind Farm opens in Ontario

On Friday the Enbridge Ontario Wind Project was oficially opened. Several Politicians and executives attended the event.

The 115 Vestas V-82 turbines can produce enough power to supply fifty to sixty thousand homes with emissions-free green energy.

Also in attendance were a group of approximately 50 protestors. As guests arrived at the event the were greeted with "boos" and angry chants from the roadside protestors.

Although there will always be objections to any new green energy technologies, perhaps someone should inform these people that the time for investigating alternative means of energy production was 20 years ago. If we are to have a chance at slowing down the rate of climate change; the time for action is now.

Green Energy and Climate Change- First Post

Layoffs, Debt, Cutbacks, Plant Closures... These seem the be the only items tabled on each news broadcast in recent months. As jobs continue to disappear across North America one must wonder what the future will bring.

Although the economical side of things may seem bleak, the advancements in technology continue to abound. Green energy, communications, the internet in general; these things areas seem to snaowball daily to new and amazing levels.

As these fields continue to soar to new heights of complexity the door is forced to open wider for people to gain and profit from them. Particularly the field of Green Energy. This is my field of expertise and will likely be a re-occurring topic in this blog. Despite the obvious environmental benefits, the economical benefits will be far greater.
